Welcome to the April Edition of “The Excellence Chronicles.”
19th Church Anniversary – A Celebration of Excellence!

A Message From Our President
Reflections: Ruth, A Story of Courage & Redemption
March was a powerful journey through the Book of Ruth under the theme “Courage In The Midst Of Adversity.” We witnessed Ruth’s unwavering faith, Naomi’s wisdom, and Boaz’s kindness, leading to restoration and a divine turnaround. This series reminded us that God honors faithfulness and He will always provide a way, even when it seems all hope is gone. Even in your grief, never think that it’s the end of your life. Just remember, God has greater plans in store for you.
Your life isn’t over, you’re just turning over a new chapter in it. So just hold your head up high, stay focused and keep it moving. Your greater is coming forth. Alleluia!
So as we transition into April, we carry these lessons of resilience, trust, and divine positioning forward.

The Essence of Faith
Faith is often described as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, a profound statement that encapsulates the essence of belief and trust in the unseen. This definition suggests that faith serves as a foundational element, providing a tangible basis for our hopes and aspirations, even when they remain beyond our immediate perception. It is the driving force that encourages individuals to pursue their dreams and goals, instilling a sense of confidence that what they desire is attainable, despite the lack of visible proof. In this context, faith transcends mere wishful thinking; it embodies a deep-seated conviction that fuels perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges.
Today, we want to highlight a My Westchester featured story about how Black businessmen united to create a legacy that, though hidden for years, now resurfaces and illuminates the resilience and leadership of a community that often feels oppressed and marginalized. Here is their story, "Sun shines again on golf club's long-lost Black history".
"During the Great Migration, we're talking the late '30s, a Black group of investors banded together to create a golf and country club,"
Sharrock-Cole said.
Ossining village historian Joyce Sharrock-Cole was researching her own family history when she discovered a piece of lost history. Sharrock-Cole was researching her uncle Warren Sharrock, one of the early Black professional golfers, when she discovered that the county-owned Hudson Hills Golf Course had once been known as The Rising Sun Golf and Country Club. Even more, it was entirely owned and operated by Black businessmen from the area. In 1936, it was the first of its kind in Westchester County and one of the first in the tri-state area.
She explains the irony that
"Black people at the time weren't welcome into the banks. So, they weren't losing their money during the Great Depression. Their money was still with them."

Prayers and Reflection: Strength for the Journey Ahead
In the face of life's difficulties, prayer and reflection offer strength and direction. These practices enable us to connect with our inner selves and God, providing clarity and peace. Whether structured or spontaneous, prayer builds resilience and reassures us that we are not alone, providing comfort and bravery.
Reflecting promotes self-examination, allowing us to gain insights from past experiences and make well-informed choices moving forward.
Prayer and reflection establish a sacred environment for spiritual rejuvenation, bolstering our determination and nurturing peace.
This combination serves as a guiding light, nurturing hope and resilience, and transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and wisdom.
